About Nic
Counselling grounded in non-dual recognition
I’m Nic Higham, a BACP-registered counsellor offering nondual therapy and experiential inquiry online worldwide and in person in Melton Mowbray.
Although I am no longer religious, I spent my formative years in a deeply devout household where Christian teachings were central to family life. That environment ignited a deep love for spirituality, and I always felt presence intimately and tangibly.
At church I also received the conflicting message that God was a distant, separate entity requiring strict adherence to dogmatic rules. In time, I came to recognise that presence was not an external force, but the nature of myself and everything around me. The teachings of Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj especially helped point to what was already present and stabilise this knowing.
Professional background
Experience across mental health and private practice.
I completed my counsellor certification in 2009 and am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy. I spent over a decade in the NHS, working in mental health, serving as an elected governor, contributing to service transformation and teaching mindfulness at an NHS recovery college.
After leaving the NHS, I led mental health service improvement schemes for a national social justice charity, with a focus on improving the lives and autonomy of marginalised groups. I now have a private counselling practice in Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire, and offer both in-person and online appointments.
How I meet you
Alongside you, not above you.
I am not here as a guru or distant expert. Sessions are collaborative and responsive, with space for uncertainty, emotion, bodily experience and the meanings that form between us. My role is to help you listen more closely to your own experience, without asking you to adopt a belief or spiritual identity.
We may notice how familiar strategies once protected you, what they are trying to communicate and what becomes possible when they no longer have to carry the same burden. The pace follows what feels workable for you.
